This year marks the 100th anniversary of the modern hospice and palliative care movement founded by Dame Cicely Saunders. She pioneered the movement based on the basic premise “You matter because you are you, and you matter until the end of your life”. In our small effort to affirm life and display solidarity and support to all those patients and families who are facing a difficult time in life, we propose to initiate “The Bucket List” project at our hospital. All participants would be requested to write down any 3 things that feature on their bucket list. These will be displayed for all to see, and will also be shared on social media. This will help to not only sensitise everyone to the feelings of a terminally ill patient and their families, but also is an occasion for introspection. This will be followed by screening of a Hindi movie “Anand” which says “Zindagi badi honi chahiye, lambi nahi” which essentially translates to living a fulfilling life and finding life in years instead of years in life.
