Circus Starr began 23 years ago when a family friend of the circus became very ill and began to rely very heavily on a local hospice for daily support.

It was soon noticed that in financial terms every day was a struggle for this local hospice and this was the case across the country. With wanting to make a difference, Circus Starr was born.

The idea was to raise thousands of pounds for local charities from the advance sales of tickets to local businesses to see our circus.

With a small and dedicated calling team this idea has now been successfully running for over two decades.

We offer local businesses in the area of the charity the chance to buy tickets and different levels of sponsorship. When purchasing tickets, the business can have them for their own use or can donate them to underprivileged and disabled children, who otherwise wouldn’t get the chance to see a circus show.

Over the years we have enabled over 1 million children the chance to see and experience the magic of circus. We profoundly believe that without Circus Starr many of these children wouldn’t have ever had the opportunity to enjoy such a day. This is often a unique experience that remains with a child for the rest of their life.

Here is one families story :

We would like to say thank you for the kind donation of Circus Starr tickets to our family. We were given the opportunity of visiting the circus through our children school. It was the first time we had heard of Circus Starr and a ‘Circus With A Purpose’ and really didn’t know what to expect, but we had an absolutely fabulous time. It was even more special for our family, because we are in the process of adopting our two boys, who were placed with us 8 months ago, and this was their first experience of a circus and ours as a family. It was great to see the expressions on the boy’s faces and they didn’t stop talking about the things they had seen for days afterwards. Our youngest child thought the circus was ‘super’ whilst the eldest said it was one of the best days of his life. We think that the circus and the opportunities it gives to both the audience and the charities it supports is fantastic, we cannot thank you enough for your support.

With the committed help from local interest groups, authorities, media and businesses throughout the UK, we aim to beat last year’s targets and make 2010 the best year yet for Circus Starr and its charity partners.
